Can you tell devices apart that are the same make and model?
Here is a test of 7 devices of the same make and model, all transmitting from a small 10’ x 20’ area. In this video, the fingerprints are color coded by the Endpoint WIDS according to the classified source and were stacked one on top of the other so you can see the change over time in the fingerprints, shown in the spread of each fingerprint, which is more typically a thin curve. One can see that the fingerprints are easily separated and are quite stable.
Will something moving in the path of the signal affect the rf fingerprints?
Studies conducted at the iFlex Lab at the Ivy Tech Community College in Elkhart, Indiana, include an autonomous robot traversing the multipath channel between sensors and Endpoint WIDS. This video shows the WIDS in action, identifying and color coding devices on the fly. The maroon fingerprint is one of a sensor riding on the back of an autonomous robot as it passes directly through the line of communication between other sensors and the Endpoint WIDS. One can see that the WIDS easily keeps track of the sensors and the one riding the robot moves across the globe.
